How the Fruit Juice Converter Works

The Fruit Juice Converter divides juice mass by the density of the juice type. The default 1.045 kg/L fits orange and apple juice at about 11–12 °Brix.

  1. Pick the juice

Choose orange, apple, grape, pineapple or another juice from the table.

  2. Enter the density

Use the table value, or calculate density from a refractometer °Brix reading.

  3. Enter the mass

Type the juice weight in kilograms.

  4. Read the liters

The result gives the volume for cartons, kegs or tanks.

Fruit Juice Converter Formula

The fruit juice formula is V = m ÷ ρjuice. Juice density rises about 0.004 kg/L for each 1 °Brix of dissolved sugar.

V = m ÷ ρjuice
ρjuice ≈ 0.998 + 0.004 × °Brix

Worked Examples

  • Orange juice (11.8 °Brix): 10 kg ÷ 1.045 = 9.569 L.
  • Grape juice (16 °Brix): 10 kg ÷ 1.065 = 9.390 L.
  • Orange concentrate (65 °Brix): 1,000 kg ÷ 1.32 = 757.6 L.

Fruit Juice Converter Conversion Table

1 kg of orange juice equals 0.957 liters. The table lists 9 juices and concentrates by density.

What is a Fruit Juice Converter?

A Fruit Juice Converter is a calculator that turns the weight of fruit juice into volume using a density set by the juice sugar content.

Fruit juice is about 85–90% water. Natural sugars, acids and minerals make up the rest and push density 3–6% above water.

The Codex and US FDA set minimum °Brix values for 100% juice made from concentrate: 11.8 °Brix for orange, 11.5 °Brix for apple and 16.0 °Brix for Concord grape.

What are the Uses of a Fruit Juice Converter?

There are 4 main uses of a Fruit Juice Converter.

  • Juice bar batching

Bars convert pressed juice weight into serving volumes.

  • Concentrate reconstitution

Bottlers convert drums of concentrate into finished liters.

  • Pressing yields

Orchards convert fruit-to-juice yields into liters per tonne.

  • Home cider and wine

Home brewers convert juice weight into fermenter fill.
