How the Cement Powder Converter Works

The Cement Powder Converter divides cement mass by cement bulk density. The default 1.44 kg/L fits Portland cement in a loose, aerated state.

  1. Pick loose or settled

Fresh, aerated cement weighs about 1.2 kg/L; settled cement in a silo reaches 1.6 kg/L.

  2. Enter the density

    Keep 1.44 kg/L for standard mix-design calculations.

  3. Enter the mass

Type the bag or silo weight: 25 kg, 50 kg or 94 lb (42.6 kg).

  4. Read the volume

Use the liters to batch cement by volume with a bucket or gauge box.

Cement Powder Converter Formula

The cement formula is V = m ÷ 1.44. A 50 kg bag of cement fills about 34.7 L.

V = m ÷ ρcement
Absolute volume = m ÷ 3.15 (no voids)
ρcement
Bulk density of cement powder, kg/L
3.15
Specific gravity of Portland cement particles

Worked Examples

  • 50 kg bag: 50 ÷ 1.44 = 34.7 L.
  • 94 lb (42.6 kg) US bag: 42.6 ÷ 1.44 = 29.6 L (≈ 1.04 ft³).
  • Absolute volume in a mix: 350 kg ÷ 3.15 = 111.1 L of solid cement per m³ of concrete.

What is a Cement Powder Converter?

A Cement Powder Converter is a calculator that converts cement weight into powder volume using cement bulk density.

Portland cement is clinker ground with about 5% gypsum. Clinker forms when limestone and clay burn together in a kiln at 1,450°C (2,640°F).

Cement particles have a specific gravity of 3.15, but poured cement holds about 54% air. Mix designs use the absolute volume (m ÷ 3.15) for yield and the bulk volume for batching by bucket.

What are the Uses of a Cement Powder Converter?

There are 4 main uses of a Cement Powder Converter.

  • Volume batching

Site crews convert bag weights into bucket measures.

  • Silo sizing

Batching plants size silos from tonnes delivered.

  • Storage planning

Builders estimate pallet space for cement bags.

  • Mortar and grout

Masons convert cement ratios by weight into volume.
