How the Concrete Converter Works
The Concrete Converter divides concrete mass by fresh concrete density. The default 2.40 kg/L fits normal-weight structural concrete.
Pick the mix type
Normal, lightweight, high-strength and heavyweight concretes differ in density.
Enter the density
Type the value in kg/L; the slider tops out at 3.0, and the number box takes any value.
Enter the mass
Type the concrete weight in kilograms.
Read the volume
Divide liters by 1,000 for m³ or by 764.6 for yd³.
Concrete Converter Formula
The concrete formula is V = m ÷ 2.40. One cubic meter of normal concrete weighs 2,400 kg; one cubic yard weighs about 4,050 lb.
- ρconcrete
- Fresh concrete density, kg/L (t/m³)
Worked Examples
- Ready-mix truck: 8 m³ × 2.40 = 19.2 t of concrete.
- Premix bag: 25 kg ÷ 2.20 = 11.36 L of mixed concrete.
- Slab: 4 × 3 × 0.1 m = 1.2 m³ × 2.40 = 2.88 t.
Concrete Converter Conversion Table
1 m³ of normal concrete weighs 2,400 kg (5,291 lb). The table lists 6 concrete types.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lightweight structural | 1.850 | 115.5 | 540.5 | 3,118 |
| Bagged premix (wet) | 2.200 | 137.3 | 454.5 | 3,708 |
| Normal-weight | 2.400 | 149.8 | 416.7 | 4,045 |
| Reinforced (with steel) | 2.500 | 156.1 | 400.0 | 4,214 |
| High-strength | 2.450 | 152.9 | 408.2 | 4,130 |
| Heavyweight (barite) | 3.600 | 224.7 | 277.8 | 6,068 |
What is a Concrete Converter?
A Concrete Converter is a calculator that converts concrete weight into volume using concrete density for the mix type.
Concrete is cement, water, sand and coarse aggregate bound by cement hydration. Aggregate makes up 60–75% of the volume and sets most of the density.
Lightweight concrete swaps stone for expanded clay or shale to cut dead load. Heavyweight concrete uses barite or magnetite for radiation shielding in hospitals and reactors.
What are the Uses of a Concrete Converter?
There are 4 main uses of a Concrete Converter.
Ordering ready-mix
Builders convert designed m³ into truck loads.
Structural loads
Engineers convert slab volume into dead load.
Demolition waste
Contractors convert rubble tonnes into skip volume.
Bag counts
DIYers convert post-hole volume into premix bags.
