How the Cooking Oil Converter Works

The Cooking Oil Converter divides oil mass by the density of the selected oil variety. The default 0.92 kg/L covers most seed and vegetable oils at 20°C (68°F).

  1. Pick the oil variety

Find your oil in the table: olive, sunflower, canola, soybean, corn, peanut, sesame, palm or coconut.

  2. Enter its density

Type the density; edible oils range from 0.910 to 0.925 kg/L.

  3. Enter the mass

Type the kilograms of oil from the scale or tin label.

  4. Read the liters

The result shows how much fryer, bottle or jug space the oil needs.

Cooking Oil Converter Formula

The cooking oil formula is Liters = Kilograms ÷ 0.92 for a typical seed oil. Every edible oil yields between 1.081 and 1.099 L per kg.

V = m ÷ ρoil
1 kg of oil ≈ 1.087 L

Worked Examples

  • Soybean oil: 18 kg ÷ 0.917 = 19.63 L.
  • Peanut oil: 5 kg ÷ 0.914 = 5.470 L.
  • Sesame oil: 0.5 kg ÷ 0.921 = 543 mL.

Cooking Oil Converter Conversion Table

1 kg of a typical cooking oil equals 1.087 liters. The table lists 10 edible oils with density and volume per kilogram at 20°C.

What is a Cooking Oil Converter?

A Cooking Oil Converter is a calculator that changes the weight of any edible oil into liters using the density of the oil variety.

Edible oils are triglycerides, fats built from glycerol and three fatty acids. The fatty acid mix sets the density, which stays inside a narrow 0.910–0.925 kg/L band for liquid oils.

All cooking oils float on water. 1 L of sunflower oil weighs 920 g, so a 1 L bottle carries 80 g less than a 1 L bottle of water.

What are the Uses of a Cooking Oil Converter?

There are 5 main uses of a Cooking Oil Converter.

  • Fryer filling

Restaurants convert oil tins sold by weight into fryer fill lines.

  • Wholesale buying

Buyers compare oil priced per kg with oil priced per liter.

  • Recipe scaling

Bakers convert gram-based oil weights into cups.

  • Used oil collection

Recyclers convert drum weights into liters for biodiesel feedstock.

  • Nutrition labels

Producers convert per-100 g data into per-tablespoon servings.
