How the Chemical Solution Converter Works
The Chemical Solution Converter divides solution mass by a density that depends on concentration. The default 1.08 kg/L fits about 16% hydrochloric acid or 7.5% sodium hydroxide.
Know the concentration
Use % by weight (w/w) from the certificate of analysis.
Find the density
Read the density for that concentration in the table.
Enter the mass
Type the solution weight in kilograms.
Read the liters
Multiply mass by concentration for the pure chemical mass.
Chemical Solution Converter Formula
The chemical solution formula is V = m ÷ ρ(w). Pure solute mass equals m × w, and molarity equals 1000 × ρ × w ÷ M.
- w
- Mass fraction of solute (0.37 for 37%)
- M
- Molar mass of solute, g/mol (HCl 36.46, NaOH 40.00)
Worked Examples
- 37% HCl molarity: 1000 × 1.184 × 0.37 ÷ 36.46 = 12.02 mol/L.
- 50% NaOH: 100 kg ÷ 1.525 = 65.57 L, holding 50 kg of pure NaOH.
- 10% NaOH molarity: 1000 × 1.109 × 0.10 ÷ 40.00 = 2.773 mol/L.
Chemical Solution Converter Conversion Table
A 30% hydrochloric acid solution weighs 1.149 kg/L, and a 30% sodium hydroxide solution weighs 1.328 kg/L at 20°C. The table compares both by concentration.

What is a Chemical Solution Converter?
A Chemical Solution Converter is a calculator that converts a chemical solution weight into volume using density at the solution concentration.
Dissolving acids, bases or salts in water raises density in a curved, not straight, pattern. Published tables from the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics map density against concentration.
Density checks concentration too. A hydrometer or density meter reading of 1.149 kg/L on HCl at 20°C confirms a 30% solution.
What are the Uses of a Chemical Solution Converter?
There are 4 main uses of a Chemical Solution Converter.
Lab solution prep
Chemists convert stock solution mass into volume and molarity.
Water treatment
Plants convert caustic and acid deliveries into dosing volume.
Concentration checks
QC labs confirm strength by measured density.
Neutralization planning
Engineers convert acid kg into base volume needed.
