How the Methanol Converter Works

The Methanol Converter divides methanol mass by methanol density at the measuring temperature. The default 0.791 kg/L fits pure methanol at 20°C (68°F).

  1. Check the temperature

Methanol density falls about 0.00094 kg/L per °C of warming.

  2. Pick the density

Read the density for your temperature from the table.

  3. Enter the mass

Type the methanol weight in kilograms.

  4. Read the liters

Use the volume for tanks, drums and dosing pumps.

Methanol Converter Formula

The methanol formula is V = m ÷ ρ(T), with ρ(T) ≈ 0.810 − 0.00094 × T for T in °C.

V = m ÷ ρ(T)
ρ(T) ≈ 0.810 − 0.00094 × T

Worked Examples

  • At 20°C: 1,000 kg ÷ 0.7914 = 1,263.6 L.
  • At 40°C: 1,000 kg ÷ 0.7724 = 1,294.7 L, 31 L more.
  • Race fuel can: 20 L × 0.791 = 15.82 kg.

Methanol Converter Conversion Table

Pure methanol weighs 0.7914 kg/L at 20°C. The table lists methanol density from 0°C to 50°C.

What is a Methanol Converter?

A Methanol Converter is a calculator that converts methanol weight into volume using methanol density at a set temperature.

Methanol (CH₃OH) is the simplest alcohol. Industry makes about 100 million tonnes a year from natural gas or coal through synthesis gas.

Methanol is toxic: 30 mL can be fatal for an adult. Methanol feeds formaldehyde, acetic acid and biodiesel production, and fuels racing engines and fuel cells.

What are the Uses of a Methanol Converter?

There are 4 main uses of a Methanol Converter.

  • Biodiesel production

Producers convert methanol kg into reactor liters.

  • Chemical plants

Operators convert tank tonnage into volume.

  • Motorsport fuel

Teams convert fuel weight into tank fills.

  • Wastewater denitrification

Plants dose methanol by volume from mass targets.
