How the Epoxy Hardener Converter Works
The Epoxy Hardener Converter divides Part B (hardener) mass by hardener density. The default 0.98 kg/L fits a typical amine hardener.
Find the Part B density
Read the hardener density on the TDS or the B-side label.
Enter the hardener mass
Type the Part B weight in kilograms.
Read the liters
The result shows Part B volume for measuring cups and pumps.
Check the ratio
Divide hardener volume by resin volume to confirm the kit volume ratio.
Epoxy Hardener Converter Formula
The epoxy hardener formula is VB = mB ÷ ρB. A weight ratio becomes a volume ratio by multiplying by ρA ÷ ρB.
- ρB
- Hardener density, kg/L
- ρA
- Resin density, kg/L
Worked Examples
- 2 kg of hardener: 2 ÷ 0.98 = 2.041 L.
- Weight ratio 100:45 → volume: 0.45 × 1.16 ÷ 0.98 = 0.533, about 100:53 by volume.
- Anhydride hardener: 5 kg ÷ 1.20 = 4.167 L.
Epoxy Hardener Converter Conversion Table
1 kg of amine epoxy hardener fills 1.020 liters, more volume than the same weight of resin. The table lists 6 hardener chemistries.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aliphatic amine (fast) | 0.980 | 1.020 | 5.102 | 1.184× |
| Polyamide | 0.970 | 1.031 | 5.155 | 1.196× |
| Amidoamine | 0.960 | 1.042 | 5.208 | 1.208× |
| Cycloaliphatic amine | 1.020 | 0.980 | 4.902 | 1.137× |
| Phenalkamine | 1.000 | 1.000 | 5.000 | 1.160× |
| Anhydride (heat cure) | 1.200 | 0.833 | 4.167 | 0.967× |
What is an Epoxy Hardener Converter?
An Epoxy Hardener Converter is a calculator that converts epoxy Part B hardener weight into volume.
Epoxy hardeners, called curing agents, contain reactive amine or anhydride groups. Each reactive hydrogen links to one epoxide group in the resin.
Amine hardeners are lighter than epoxy resin at 0.95–1.05 kg/L. Anhydride hardeners for heat-cured electrical potting run heavier at about 1.2 kg/L.
What are the Uses of an Epoxy Hardener Converter?
There are 4 main uses of an Epoxy Hardener Converter.
Ratio conversion
Users turn a weight mix ratio into cup measures.
Dispensing pumps
Technicians set B-side pump strokes from mass.
Stock control
Shops convert partial jugs into liters left.
Formulation
Chemists convert PHR into volume for test batches.
