How the Epoxy Resin Converter Works
The Epoxy Resin Converter divides the mass of epoxy Part A (resin) by resin density. The default 1.16 kg/L fits a standard bisphenol-A laminating resin.
Find the Part A density
Read "density" or "specific gravity" for Part A on the TDS.
Enter the resin mass
Type the Part A weight in kilograms.
Read the liters
The result shows Part A volume before mixing.
Plan the hardener
Use the kit mix ratio to find Part B, then the Mixed Epoxy Converter for the total.
Epoxy Resin Converter Formula
The epoxy resin formula is VA = mA ÷ ρA. Epoxide equivalent weight (EEW) links resin mass to hardener demand.
- ρA
- Resin density, kg/L
- EEW
- Grams of resin per epoxide group (about 182–192 for liquid BPA resin)
- AHEW
- Amine hydrogen equivalent weight of the hardener
- PHR
- Parts hardener per 100 parts resin by weight
Worked Examples
- 4 kg of resin: 4 ÷ 1.16 = 3.448 L.
- Hardener demand: AHEW 95 ÷ EEW 190 × 100 = 50 PHR, so 4 kg resin needs 2 kg hardener.
- Deep-pour resin at 1.12 kg/L: 10 kg ÷ 1.12 = 8.929 L.
Epoxy Resin Converter Conversion Table
1 kg of standard epoxy resin (Part A) fills 0.862 liters. The table lists 6 epoxy resin types.
| Resin Type | Density (kg/L) | Liters per 1 kg | Liters per 20 kg | lb per US gal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Casting / jewelry resin | 1.100 | 0.909 | 18.18 | 9.18 |
| Deep-pour river table resin | 1.120 | 0.893 | 17.86 | 9.35 |
| Tabletop coating resin | 1.150 | 0.870 | 17.39 | 9.60 |
| Laminating resin (BPA) | 1.160 | 0.862 | 17.24 | 9.68 |
| Bisphenol-F resin | 1.180 | 0.847 | 16.95 | 9.85 |
| Epoxy novolac | 1.220 | 0.820 | 16.39 | 10.18 |
What is an Epoxy Resin Converter?
An Epoxy Resin Converter is a calculator that converts epoxy Part A resin weight into volume using resin density.
Liquid epoxy resin is mostly the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). The resin stays liquid until a hardener opens the epoxide rings and builds a cross-linked network.
Resin and hardener densities differ, so a kit labeled 2:1 by volume is not 2:1 by weight. Mixing by the wrong basis leaves the cured epoxy soft or brittle.
What are the Uses of an Epoxy Resin Converter?
There are 4 main uses of an Epoxy Resin Converter.
Kit planning
Makers convert resin weight into mold volume.
Composite layups
Laminators convert resin weight into fiber wet-out volume.
Pump calibration
Meter-mix machines convert kg/min into L/min.
Ordering
Buyers convert drum weights into project liters.
