How the Ghee Converter Works

The Ghee Converter divides ghee mass by ghee density at its temperature. The default 0.905 kg/L fits liquid ghee at about 30°C (86°F).

  1. Check the temperature

Ghee stays soft to grainy below 25°C and turns liquid above 32–35°C.

  2. Enter the density

    Use 0.93 kg/L for grainy solid ghee, 0.905 kg/L at 30°C or 0.89 kg/L when hot.

  3. Enter the mass

Type the jar or tin weight in kilograms.

  4. Read the volume

The liter result fits pouring and portioning in the kitchen.

Ghee Converter Formula

The ghee formula is V = m ÷ ρghee(T). Pure milk fat expands about 0.07% per °C as it warms.

V = m ÷ ρghee(T)
ρghee(T) ≈ 0.926 − 0.0007 × T (liquid, T in °C)
T
Ghee temperature, °C

Worked Examples

  • 1 kg tin at 30°C: 1 ÷ 0.905 = 1.105 L.
  • 500 g jar, grainy at 20°C: 500 ÷ 0.93 = 537.6 mL.
  • 15 kg tin, hot at 60°C: 15 ÷ 0.884 = 16.97 L.

Ghee Converter Conversion Table

1 kg of liquid ghee at 30°C fills 1.105 liters. The table converts common ghee pack sizes.

What is a Ghee Converter?

A Ghee Converter is a calculator that converts ghee weight into volume using the density of clarified butter at its temperature.

Ghee is butter simmered until the water boils off and the milk solids brown and settle. Ghee holds 99.5% or more milk fat and keeps without refrigeration for months.

The Codex Alimentarius standard for ghee sets a minimum of 99.6% milk fat and a maximum of 0.3% moisture. India produces and consumes more ghee than any other country.

What are the Uses of a Ghee Converter?

There are 4 main uses of a Ghee Converter.

  • South Asian cooking

Cooks convert gram weights in recipes into spoons and cups.

  • Ayurvedic preparations

Practitioners measure ghee for herbal formulations.

  • Sweet shops

Halwais convert tin weights into batch volumes for mithai.

  • Temple and ceremony use

Organizers convert bulk ghee for lamps and offerings.
