How the Glycerin Converter Works

The Glycerin Converter divides glycerin mass by density at its purity. The default 1.261 kg/L fits pure (99.5%+) USP glycerol at 20°C (68°F).

  1. Check the purity

Read the glycerol % on the label: USP, 99.7%, 96% or a water dilution.

  2. Pick the density

Read the density for that concentration from the table.

  3. Enter the mass

Type the glycerin weight in kilograms.

  4. Read the liters

Use the volume to fill dispensers or batch soap and e-liquid.

Glycerin Converter Formula

The glycerin formula is V = m ÷ ρ(%). Pure glycerol (C₃H₈O₃) weighs 1.2613 kg/L at 20°C.

V = m ÷ ρ(% glycerol)
ρ(T) ≈ 1.2613 − 0.00065 × (T − 20)

Worked Examples

  • Pure glycerin: 25 kg ÷ 1.2613 = 19.821 L.
  • 1 L bottle: 1 × 1.261 = 1.261 kg (2.78 lb).
  • 50% glycerol solution: 10 kg ÷ 1.1263 = 8.879 L.

Glycerin Converter Conversion Table

Pure glycerin weighs 1.2613 kg/L; a 50% glycerin-water mix weighs 1.1263 kg/L at 20°C. The table lists density by concentration.

What is a Glycerin Converter?

A Glycerin Converter is a calculator that converts glycerin weight into volume using density at the glycerol concentration.

Glycerin, or glycerol, is a sweet, thick triol. Most glycerin comes as a co-product of biodiesel and soap making: 10 kg of biodiesel yields about 1 kg of crude glycerol.

Glycerin pulls water from the air. The hygroscopic effect makes glycerin a common humectant in skin creams, toothpaste, food and e-liquids.

What are the Uses of a Glycerin Converter?

There are 4 main uses of a Glycerin Converter.

  • Soap and cosmetics

Makers convert glycerin kg into batch volume.

  • E-liquid mixing

Mixers convert VG percentages by weight and volume.

  • Food production

Plants dose glycerin as a sweetener and humectant.

  • Biodiesel co-product

Producers convert crude glycerol tonnage into tank volume.
