How the Kilograms to Liters Converter Works
The Kilograms to Liters Converter divides a mass in kilograms (kg) by a density in kilograms per liter (kg/L) and returns the volume in liters (L). The calculator runs in your browser and updates on every keystroke.
Type the mass
Enter the weight in kilograms into the Mass field. A value of 10 kg loads by default.
Set the density
Keep 1.000 kg/L for water, or type the density of your substance. The slider covers 0.10 to 3.00 kg/L; the number box accepts any value.
Read the liters
The result box shows the volume in liters and prints the full division, such as 10 kg ÷ 1.000 kg/L = 10 L.
Copy the answer
Press Copy to place the liter value on your clipboard for a spreadsheet, label or order form.
Kilograms to Liters Converter Formula
The kilograms to liters formula is Volume (L) = Mass (kg) ÷ Density (kg/L). One liter equals one cubic decimeter (dm³), so a density in kg/L gives liters directly with no extra factor.
- V
- Volume in liters (L)
- m
- Mass in kilograms (kg)
- ρ
- Density in kg/L (equal to g/cm³ and g/mL)
Worked Examples
- Water at 4°C (39.2°F): 10 kg ÷ 1.000 kg/L = 10.000 L (2.642 US gal).
- Olive oil: 10 kg ÷ 0.918 kg/L = 10.893 L, so oil takes up more room than the same weight of water.
- Honey: 10 kg ÷ 1.42 kg/L = 7.042 L, so honey fills less space than water for the same weight.
Kilograms to Liters Converter Conversion Table

Values use a water density of 1.000 kg/L. Divide by your own density to convert any other substance.
What is a Kilograms to Liters Converter?
A Kilograms to Liters Converter is a calculator that turns a mass in kilograms (kg) into a volume in liters (L) using the density of the substance.
Kilograms measure mass and liters measure volume. The two units connect only through density, the mass held in one liter. Water sets the reference point: 1 kg of pure water fills 1 L at 4°C (39.2°F).
Every other material gives a different answer. 1 kg of gasoline fills 1.342 L, 1 kg of milk fills 0.968 L and 1 kg of mercury fills 0.074 L. The converter applies the right density so the volume matches the substance in your container.
What are the Uses of a Kilograms to Liters Converter?
There are 5 main uses of a Kilograms to Liters Converter, covering kitchens, workshops, labs and logistics.
Recipe conversion
Cooks turn gram or kilogram weights from European recipes into liter and milliliter measures.
Container sizing
Buyers check that 25 kg of product fits in a 20 L or 30 L drum before ordering packaging.
Fuel planning
Drivers and pilots turn fuel weight into liters for tank capacity checks.
Lab preparation
