How the Mixed Epoxy Converter Works
The Mixed Epoxy Converter divides the total mass of resin plus hardener by mixed density. The default 1.11 kg/L sits close to the 1.100 kg/L of a 2:1 mix of 1.16 kg/L resin and 0.98 kg/L hardener.
Add both weights
Add the Part A and Part B weights for the batch.
Use the mixed density
Take the mixed density from the TDS, or calculate it with the formula below.
Enter mass and density
Type the total mass and the mixed density.
Read the pour volume
Compare the liters with the mold or cavity volume before mixing.
Mixed Epoxy Converter Formula
The mixed epoxy formula is ρmix = (mA + mB) ÷ (VA + VB). Epoxy shrinks 1–5% in volume as it cures.
- ρA, ρB
- Resin and hardener densities (1.16 and 0.98 kg/L here)
- mA, mB
- Resin and hardener masses, kg
Worked Examples
- 2:1 by volume: 2 L resin = 2.32 kg, 1 L hardener = 0.98 kg, so ρ = 3.30 ÷ 3 = 1.100 kg/L.
- Pour of 3.3 kg mixed: 3.3 ÷ 1.10 = 3.000 L before cure shrinkage.
- River table 0.8 × 0.1 × 0.05 m = 4 L: 4 × 1.11 = 4.44 kg of mixed epoxy.
Mixed Epoxy Converter Conversion Table
A 2:1 by volume epoxy mix of 1.16 and 0.98 kg/L components has a mixed density of 1.100 kg/L. The table converts common kit ratios from volume to weight.
| Ratio by Volume (A:B) | Ratio by Weight (A:B) | Mixed Density (kg/L) | kg per 1 L Mixed | Resin kg per 1 kg Mixed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | 100:84.5 | 1.070 | 1.070 | 0.542 |
| 2:1 | 100:42.2 | 1.100 | 1.100 | 0.703 |
| 3:1 | 100:28.2 | 1.115 | 1.115 | 0.780 |
| 4:1 | 100:21.1 | 1.124 | 1.124 | 0.826 |
| 5:1 | 100:16.9 | 1.130 | 1.130 | 0.855 |
Uses Part A = 1.16 kg/L and Part B = 0.98 kg/L. Always follow the ratio basis printed on your kit.
What is a Mixed Epoxy Converter?
A Mixed Epoxy Converter is a calculator that converts the combined weight of epoxy resin and hardener into the liquid volume of the mixed batch.
Mixed density sits between the resin and hardener densities, weighted by volume. A higher resin share pushes the mix toward 1.16 kg/L.
Curing turns liquid monomers into a solid network and pulls the molecules closer. Low-shrink casting resins shrink about 1%; fast general-purpose epoxies shrink up to 5%.
What are the Uses of a Mixed Epoxy Converter?
There are 4 main uses of a Mixed Epoxy Converter.
Mold filling
Makers mix the exact batch weight a mold needs.
River tables
Woodworkers convert cavity volume into kit kilograms.
Floor coatings
Installers convert mixed kg into m² at a set thickness.
Kit ratio swaps
Users switch between weight and volume mixing.
