How the Evaporated Milk Converter Works

The Evaporated Milk Converter divides the weight of unsweetened evaporated milk by its density, about 1.07 kg/L.

  1. Find the can weight

Check the label for net weight, such as 410 g, or for fluid volume, such as 12 fl oz.

  2. Enter the mass

    Type the weight in kilograms.

  3. Keep the density

    Keep 1.07 kg/L for full-fat; skimmed evaporated milk runs about 1.075 kg/L.

  4. Read the volume

Use the liter result to measure out the recipe amount.

Evaporated Milk Converter Formula

The evaporated milk formula is V = m ÷ 1.07. Removing about 60% of the water concentrates milk solids and raises density from 1.033 to 1.07 kg/L.

V = m ÷ 1.07
Reconstituted milk = 1 part evaporated + 1 part water

Worked Examples

  • 410 g can: 410 ÷ 1.07 = 383 mL.
  • 12 fl oz (354 mL) can: 0.354 L × 1.07 = 0.379 kg of milk.
  • Reconstitution: 383 mL of evaporated milk + 383 mL of water gives about 766 mL of milk-strength liquid.

Evaporated Milk Converter Conversion Table

A 410 g can of evaporated milk holds about 383 mL. The table lists common pack sizes in metric and US units.

What is an Evaporated Milk Converter?

An Evaporated Milk Converter is a calculator that converts evaporated milk weight to volume using the density of concentrated, unsweetened milk.

Evaporated milk is fresh milk heated under vacuum until about 60% of the water boils off, then sealed and sterilized in cans. Evaporated milk contains no added sugar, unlike condensed milk.

Shelf-stable evaporated milk keeps for 12–15 months unopened. Cooks use evaporated milk in pumpkin pie, macaroni sauces and curries for a creamy texture without cream.

What are the Uses of an Evaporated Milk Converter?

There are 4 main uses of an Evaporated Milk Converter.

  • Pie and custard recipes

Bakers convert grams in UK recipes to US cups.

  • Emergency food stores

Planners convert can stock into liters of reconstituted milk.

  • Food service

Kitchens scale sauce batches from case weights.

  • Infant feeding history

Researchers convert historic evaporated-milk formula recipes.
