How the Honey Converter Works
The Honey Converter divides honey mass by 1.42 kg/L, the density of honey with about 17–18% moisture.
Enter the jar weight
Type the net weight in kilograms: 0.454 for a 1 lb jar or 0.34 for a 12 oz jar.
Adjust for moisture
Use 1.44 kg/L for thick honey under 16% moisture or 1.39 kg/L for runny honey near 20%.
Read the liters
The result shows how little volume honey fills for its weight.
Measure by spoon
One tablespoon of honey weighs about 21 g.
Honey Converter Formula
The honey kg to liters formula is Liters = Kilograms ÷ 1.42. Honey density falls about 0.0075 kg/L for each 1% rise in moisture.
- 1.42
- Honey density at 17.5% moisture and 20°C, kg/L
- Moisture
- Water content measured with a honey refractometer
Worked Examples
- 1 kg jar: 1 ÷ 1.42 = 704.2 mL.
- 1 lb (454 g) jar: 454 ÷ 1.42 = 319.7 mL (1.35 cups).
- 300 kg drum: 300 ÷ 1.42 = 211.3 L.
Honey Converter Conversion Table
1 kg of honey equals 704 mL, and 1 cup of honey weighs about 336 g. The table converts common honey jar and bucket sizes.

What is a Honey Converter?
A Honey Converter is a calculator that turns honey weight into volume using honey density of about 1.42 kg/L.
Honey is a supersaturated sugar solution made by bees from nectar. Fructose (38%) and glucose (31%) dominate, with water at 17–18%. The sugar load makes honey 42% heavier than water.
Honey is sold by weight, never by volume. A "16 oz" honey jar means 16 oz of weight, which fills only about 10.8 US fl oz (320 mL) of space.
What are the Uses of a Honey Converter?
There are 5 main uses of a Honey Converter.
Jar filling
Beekeepers pick jar sizes that hold 250 g, 340 g or 454 g net.
Baking
Bakers swap sugar for honey by weight and volume.
Mead making
Mead makers convert kilograms of honey into must volume.
Harvest records
Apiarists convert extracted kilograms into bucket liters.
Moisture checks
Packers detect high-moisture honey from low density.
