How the Maple Syrup Converter Works

The Maple Syrup Converter divides syrup mass by 1.33 kg/L, the density of pure maple syrup at 66 °Brix. The table lists the weight of common bottle sizes.

  1. Enter the mass

    Type the syrup weight in kilograms.

  2. Keep 1.33 kg/L

    All grades, golden to very dark, share the same 66.0–66.9 °Brix sugar standard.

  3. Read the liters

    The result shows the volume for bottles and jugs.

  4. Check bottle weights

    Use the table for the mass inside 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L and 1 US gal containers.

Maple Syrup Converter Formula

The maple syrup formula is Liters = Kilograms ÷ 1.33. One US gallon of maple syrup weighs about 11.1 lb (5.03 kg).

V = m ÷ 1.33
m = V × 1.33
1.33
Density of 66 °Brix maple syrup at 20°C, kg/L

Worked Examples

  • 1 kg: 1 ÷ 1.33 = 751.9 mL.
  • 1 US gallon: 3.785 L × 1.33 = 5.035 kg (11.10 lb).
  • Sugar shack barrel: 280 kg ÷ 1.33 = 210.5 L.

Maple Syrup Converter Conversion Table

1 liter of maple syrup weighs 1.33 kg (2.93 lb). The table shows the mass inside common maple syrup containers.

What is a Maple Syrup Converter?

A Maple Syrup Converter is a calculator that converts maple syrup between mass and volume using the 66 °Brix standard density of 1.33 kg/L.

Maple syrup is sap from sugar maple trees boiled down until sugar reaches 66% by weight. About 40 L of sap makes 1 L of syrup.

Syrup below 66 °Brix ferments; syrup above 67 °Brix crystallizes in the bottle. Quebec produces about 70% of the world supply.

What are the Uses of a Maple Syrup Converter?

There are 4 main uses of a Maple Syrup Converter.

  • Bulk syrup sales

    Producers sell barrels by weight and convert to bottle counts.

  • Recipe conversion

    Cooks swap sugar for maple syrup by weight.

  • Shipping costs

    Online sellers weigh jug orders for postage.

  • Grading records

    Sugar makers log batch yields in liters and kilograms.
