How the Jet Fuel Converter Works
The Jet Fuel Converter divides jet fuel mass by the density of the fuel specification. The default 0.804 kg/L is the typical Jet A-1 density at 15°C (59°F).
Pick the fuel type
Choose Jet A, Jet A-1, JP-8, JP-5, TS-1 or Jet B.
Use the measured density
Flight crews use the density on the fuel receipt; the specification allows 0.775–0.840 kg/L.
Enter the uplift mass
Type the required fuel in kilograms from the flight plan.
Read the liters
The result gives the volume the fueler pumps.
Jet Fuel Converter Formula
The jet fuel formula is Liters = Kilograms ÷ ρfuel. Pilots check uplift with the formula and flag gaps above about 3%.
- ρ
- Jet fuel density on the fuel receipt, kg/L
Worked Examples
- A320 uplift: (12,000 − 2,500) kg ÷ 0.804 = 11,816 L.
- In US units: 0.804 kg/L = 6.71 lb/US gal.
- Light vs heavy fuel: 10,000 kg is 12,903 L at 0.775 kg/L and 11,905 L at 0.840 kg/L.

What is a Jet Fuel Converter?
A Jet Fuel Converter is a calculator that converts aviation turbine fuel between kilograms and liters using the density of the fuel batch.
Aircraft performance, weight and balance work in mass, while fuel trucks meter volume. Every refuel needs a density to turn planned kilograms into metered liters.
Jet A-1 meets DEF STAN 91-091 and ASTM D1655. Jet A, used mainly in the US, has a higher freeze point of −40°C against −47°C for Jet A-1.
What are the Uses of a Jet Fuel Converter?
There are 4 main uses of a Jet Fuel Converter.
Refuel requests
Pilots convert kg on the flight plan into liters to order.
Uplift checks
Crews compare gauge mass with metered liters for leaks or errors.
Airport tank farms
Operators convert stock volume into tonnes.
Airline fuel contracts
Buyers convert US gallons into metric tonnes for pricing.
